Capernaum is known as Jesus’ Home town, it was here that he spent most of his ministry and today we can still see basalt dwellings among the streets where he would have walked. A large Roman Catholic Church is bulilt over what is believed to be the home of Peter’s Mother-in-Law.
There is also a large synagogue built over a pre 1st century synagogue (in which Jesus would have preached):
