Day 3 - around the shore...

Today started with a visited to the church on the Mount of Beautitudes.  This is a very simple church set in beautiful gardens and is held to be the site where Jesus gathered people around Him and taught the Sermon on the Mount.

We then went down the mountain to Tabgha - the site which commemorates the feeding of the 5000 with an ancient Byzantine mosaic in the floor.  The mosaic would have been commissioned by Empress Helena around 326 AD (ish) and shows 4 loaves and two fish...

But scripture says that there were 5 loaves and 2 fish...so what’s going on??
One explanation is that according to the artist the 5th loaf is Christ himself - the bread of Life soon to be broken for the spiritual nourishment of the world...

...or they just made a mistake!

Our guide, Suzie, is excellent, and very hardworking...it’s a shame the ancient jacuzzi couldn’t give her any relief...

(It’s really an ancient baptismal pool)
