Day 5 - Valley of Doves

Today started with a short walk into the Valley of the Doves.  Yesterday we were in and around Nazareth, now we were visiting the old road between Nazareth and Galilee - the path that Jesus and his disciples would have walked whenever in the gospels we hear of them moving from one region to the other.

In the sides of the valley, we could see cave dwellings.  These were where the Jews who were fighting against the Roman occupation lived and had hideouts.  These people were called the Zealots.

Jesus had two disciples called Simon - Simon Peter, and a Simon the Zealot.  So how did Simon the Zealot become a follower of Christ?  The acoustics in the valley are such that it is not inconceivable to imagine Simon the zxealot sat on the edge of his cave listening to the conversations between Jesus and those around Him as they walked...enough to peak his interest and down he came to follow on and become eventually one of twelve...we’ll never know - but it’s a nice thought!
